Police are investigating after a man allegedly tried to steal a shopping cart full of items from a Chatham business.

Police say on Saturday, a man went into a business on St. Clair St. in Chatham.

According to police, the man left the store with a shopping cart containing about $1,200 worth of merchandise.

Police say store security tried to stop the man, but he ran away and left the cart behind.

A release states that the man was seen running into a van waiting across the road before police arrived.

The incident is still being investigated and charges are pending.

A Chatham man wanted on six arrest warrants has been caught by police.

Police say on Sunday at around 3am, officers recognized a man outside a Grey St. residence in Chatham.

Police then discovered that the man was wanted on six separate outstanding warrants.

The 38-year-old Chatham man was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police Service where he is being held for a bail hearing.

A man spent time behind bars after complaining to police about being kicked out of a party.

Police say on Sunday at around 3:30am, an intoxicated man called police to complain that he was kicked out of a house party in Highgate and that someone inside the residence would not give his car keys back to him.

Police went to the scene and arrested the man for public intoxication.

The 57-year-old Glencoe man was arrested and taken to Chatham-Kent Police Headquarters, where he was held until sober.
