Powerline Program Is Hiring

St. Clair College in Chatham is still struggling to find qualified instructors for its Powerline Technician Program.

Chair of Academic Studies Mark Benoit says there are a couple reasons why they're having trouble hiring.

"There's so much work out there that individuals are retiring and they're getting hired up by contractors," he says. "There's a fair amount of work being outsourced because utilities can't handle it all."

But Benoit says so far they're managing.

"But it anything happened, somebody fell ill or something like that, we'd be tight," he says. "So we're still looking for individuals as both professors and technologists."

Benoit says they have an excellent team in place but they are looking to expand.

"I'm grateful for all of their work and their commitment to their students," he says. "We have some individuals that are working and their employers allowed them to leave their work and come teach for us for a day."

The Powerline Technician Program is preparing to move into its new facility in Chatham in March.
