Southwestern Ontario Digging Out After Significant Snowfall

The snowfall and snow squall warnings have ended, but not before the recent storms dumped a good amount of snow on southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada meteorologist Rob Kuhn says the most recent system picked up some moisture from the Great Lakes and dumped an estimated 10-15 cm on Chatham.

He says Windsor also recorded a significant snowfall event with 15 cm recorded at the Windsor airport early Thursday morning.

London only got 7 cm in the most recent snowfall, but that fell on top of 25-30 cm the city got from snow squalls earlier in the week.

"Those [squalls] came to an end just in time for the clipper to sail through," says Kuhn. "[The recent snowfall] paled in comparison to lake effect snowfall prior, but they still got a significant snowfall there as well."

And residents in southwestern Ontario shouldn't get too comfortable with having their driveway cleared off just yet because there's more snow on the way.

"It's going to stay quite cold with highs only around -7 C -- that's quite a few degrees below the normal high of around plus 1 C," says Kuhn. "On Friday, there's going to be another clipper coming by, but this one's going to be passing by well to the north."
