Free Christmas Dinner This Weekend

A free Christmas Dinner will be served this Sunday in Chatham.

This is the 12th year for the Community Care Christmas Dinner. The dinner will be served at the WISH Centre on King St. starting at 4pm on December 10.

Organizer Brent Ripley says nothing goes to waste.

"When the dinner is all competed we set up tables and all the soup kitchens come out and they pick up everything that's left over," says Ripley. "Anything above and beyond, so if you would like to drop off a bag of potatoes, or you would like to drop off a bag of carrots, or anything that you think the soup kitchens would like."

Food and cash donations can be dropped off a Betty Brite Dry Cleaners on Keil Dr. in Chatham.

"That's why we call it the Community Cares Dinner, because the community comes forward and donates all the money. We go and buy stuff from people in the community, it's just fantastic," says Ripley. "Just to let everybody know, we do need more stuff, and we can use more money so we can go and buy more stuff."

They usually feed upwards of 500 people, plus all the volunteers and around 100 takeouts, but Ripley says all the hard work is worth it.

"It is such a build up to get to that point, you're spent by the time you do it, but it's such a good feeling. Afterwards you're tired, but it's a good tired."
