CK Noise Bylaw Exception Denied For Wind Developer

The municipality of Chatham-Kent has denied longer construction hours for the North Kent One wind project.

North Kent applied to have workers at the wind farm work during the night and during Sundays and holidays between December 1 and March 31, but that request was rejected.

Paul Lacina, Chatham-Kent's Director of Building Development Services, says "the request to be exempt from the noise bylaw was denied due to objections received from the public and inconsistency with the principles established by council within the bylaw."

Lacina says the noise bylaw exists to allow people to enjoy their backyards and homes without the extra noise.  He says about 100 public objections were received.

Lucina says North Kent One made the request in case the wind turbine project got behind schedule but adds so far it's on schedule.

He says it's the first request from the wind developer and there's no indication North Kent One will ask for another noise bylaw exemption beyond March 31.
