Goal Set For Red Kettle Campaign

The Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign gets underway in Chatham this Thursday, November 16.

The official kick-off will take place at Dean & Barb's No Frills on Queen St. at 11am.

Captain Karen Holland says they're looking for more volunteers to stand by the kettles.

"We've got 70% of our spots filled, but it's those last 30 that are usually difficult, so we could really use some help," she says.

Their goal this year is to raise $460,000.

"It's up $5,000 I think from last year," says Holland. "But we exceeded it last year too, so we're really counting on the community to help us do that this year as well."

Holland says the money raised is used to fund the Salvation Army's numerous programs.

"It goes to help us support families at Christmas and throughout the year in the communities in Chatham-Kent," she says. "Food, housing, there's so many things that we do, it just helps us fund all our programs."

Kettles will go out in Wallaceburg starting November 23rd, in Blenheim November 29 until December 8, and in Ridgetown from December 13-23.

Anyone interested in volunteering can contact Amy at the Salvation Army at 519-354-1430.
