Maroons Beat First-Place Leamington 3-1

The Chatham Maroons got out to an early lead and held on to beat the Leamington Flyers 3-1 Sunday night at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Chatham currently holds sixth place in the GOJHL Western Conference standings with 21 points. Despite their second straight loss, Leamington is still in first place with 30 points.

Bryce Yetman put the Maroons on the board first at 13:25 in the first period, the only goal of the first 20 minutes. Josh Supryka picked up the assist.

The score remained 1-0 Maroons until late in the second period, when Eric Carter made it 2-0 on a short-handed goal.

The Flyers got on the board in the third period when Preston Corp cut the Chatham lead in half at 2:37 into the frame. The Maroons got themselves insurance and the victory with an empty-net goal from Dane Johnstone with 57 seconds left in the game.

John Massara stopped all but one of Leamington's 35 shots between the pipes for the Maroons. Connor Meyerink knocked away 46 shots in the loss for the Flyers.

The Flyers travel to LaSalle to take on the Flyers Wednesday night. The Maroons have a week-long break before hosting the Sarnia Legionnaires next Sunday night. Puck drop is at 7pm and all the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9FM/AM 630.
