Now that fall has arrived, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is asking residents to be mindful not to rake leaves onto the streets.
The municipality's Public Works Department is asking the community to avoid raking fallen leavens near streets and sidewalks to avoid clogging catch basins, which could cause flooding.
Residents are encouraged to collect and dispose of yard waste through one of the following ways:
- If possible, mow over your leaves to create mulch. Not only will this strategy reduce the amount of leaves on your lawn, but the mulch will also act as a fertilizer.
- Leaves and yard waste may be disposed of in plastic bags to be set out with your regular trash for pick up. These bags will count towards your three bag limit.
- Leafs can also be dropped off at the various leaf and yard depots located throughout the municipality.
It is requested that residents at qualifying addresses:
- Please have your leaves at the curb no later than 7am on collection day. Loose brush should not exceed four bundles of 5 ft by 3 ft by 3 ft. Tree limbs must not exceed 5 inches in diameter.
- Do not mix items such as wood, brick or brush with the leaves as they can damage equipment or injure workers.
