Flyers Outplay Maroons 5-2

The Leamington Flyers topped the Chatham Maroons 5-2 in GOJHL action on Thursday.

After a scoreless first period. the Flyers came back hard in the second with Rory DiNiro, Preston Corp and Kade McKibbin scoring back-to-back goals.

Dylan Schives scored 4:27 into the third frame to put Chatham on the board, and Josh Supryka added another for the Maroons to make it 3-2 with just over 12 minutes left in the game.  However, Leamington continued to surge past Chatham, with Corp scoring his second of the night late in the period.

Griffin Robinson added one more unanswered goal for the Flyers with just under two minutes before the buzzer.

"Our guys played very well overall, but sometimes when you're coming into the rink for the first time to play a Junior B game against Leamington, which is one of the tops teams, sometimes it's a learning experience," says Maroons Head Coach Ron Horvat. "I think we learned a lot from this loss."

Despite the loss, the Maroons out shot Leamington 45-21. Goaltender Ryan Wagner made 16 saves for Chatham, while Leamington goalie Noah Hedrick made 43.

The Flyers travel to Komoka on Saturday to face off against the Kings at 7:15pm. And then on Sunday, the Maroons return home to battle the LaSalle Vipers at 7pm.
