Businesses Returning Home In The New Year

Three businesses will be returning to their home on St. Clair St. in Chatham, following a blaze that destroyed their plaza back in January.

Sacwal Flooring, Ideal Decorating, and the Lighting and Accent Gallery have been operating out of a temporary location for the past few months.

However, now that construction is well on its way, plaza owner Harry Verhey says they should be back to their original location early in the new year.

"The roof is on, the concrete floors are all in -- which is very important so they can begin all the interior work," he says. "We expect to have the site work completed -- which is the grating, the storm water management and also the pavement by very early November. We expect to have the building closed in, probably the first week of November as well."

Verhey says the plaza that's currently being built is larger than the previous one, with more parking, and environmentally-friendly aspects.

"The temporary location is working out nicely but it's certainly not the same as having everything under one roof, and it's certainly not the same when you're working in a smaller location," he says. "The staff and the community has just been wonderful through all of this, it's been a long journey."

Verhey says they expecte to hire more people once they get settled in at the newly renovated plaza.
