Police Briefs – Thursday October 05, 2017

A Chatham man got outsmarted by police and eventually got caught.

The 48-year-old man was arrested at his home on Wednesday at around 8pm after he allegedly ran away from officers in July, but left his wallet behind in a vehicle.

A vehicle was stopped on Gray St. in Chatham three months ago, but the driver allegedly jumped out and ran.

The officer recognized the man and his identity was confirmed by identification in his wallet.

Eventually an investigation revealed that the man was allegedly committing several offences, including driving a vehicle with no license, driving under suspension, driving with an illegal licence plate, and operating a vehicle without insurance.

When Chatham-Kent police say they’re keeping a close eye on repeat offenders to make sure they’re following release conditions, they mean it.

Two men have been arrested because they allegedly failed to comply with their curfews.

A 30-year-old Chatham man was arrested on Wednesday just before 11:30pm for breaking his curfew for a second time in three months after he was caught riding his bicycle on Taylor Ave.

A 20-year-old Chatham man turned himself in on Wednesday at 9am after a warrant was issued for his arrest, because he moved and didn’t notify police.
