Annual Seat Belt Campaign Is Underway

Watch out for the OPP over the next week.

Officers are out looking for drivers and passengers not wearing their seat belts.

The annual campaign runs until October 6 to ensure that people in vehicles are buckled up.

Not wearing a seat belt will result in a $240 fine and two demerit points.

"Every year, the number of fatalities resulting from not wearing a seat belt when involved in a collision continues to rise," says the OPP. "It is imperative that all drivers and passengers are properly restrained within a vehicle, regardless of how short the trip is."

"Drivers are responsible for ensuring that all passengers under 16-years of age are properly using a seat belt or child safety seat," the OPP says.
