Spitfires Stay Perfect, Shut Out Guelph 4-0

Michael DiPietro stopped all 30 shots he faced as the Windsor Spitfires beat the Guelph Storm 4-0.

Following the win Sunday at the WFCU Centre, the Spitfires are at 3-0 and for the moment sit atop the OHL West Division standings, ahead of the 2-0 Flint Firebirds. They also lead the OHL after three games played by allowing the fewest goals, at three.

Despite the decisive win on the scoreboard, the Storm outshot the Spits in the contest 30-28.

The game was a scoreless tie until 16:56 into the opening period when Mathew MacDougall scored his first goal as a Spitfire. The score remained 1-0 until the second period when Aaron Luchuk doubled the Windsor lead with a power play goal.

It only took 42 seconds into the third period before Windsor scored again on a goal from Luke Kutkevicius, his second goal of the season. The final blow came a few minutes later with a score from Igor Larionov II.

Anthony Popovich had 24 shots in goal for Guelph.

The Spitfires host the Kitchener Rangers Thursday night.
