Chatham-Kent Museum To Launch New AgriCULTURE Exhibit

Chatham-Kent Museum will be opening a brand new AgriCULTURE exhibit next month.

The exhibit will be unveiled October 7 and run straight through the 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo, which begins September 18 of next year.

Assistant Curator Kate Rosser-Davies says the exhibit is being held in celebration of the plowing match.

"It inspired us to take a look back, not just at past plowing matches, there have been two previous ones hosted in Chatham-Kent, but at everything that agriculture has contributed socially [and] economically to what makes Chatham-Kent great," says Rosser-Davies.

Rosser-Davies says agriculture is an important part of Chatham-Kent culture.

"Chatham-Kent farmers are at the vanguard of new crops and ways of farming. We're experimenting, we're growing agriculture, and we're using new technologies. We really want to take a look at how Chatham-Kent is on the front lines of modern farming," says Rosser-Davies.

She says there will be lots to check out at the exhibit.

"There will be some great activities for kids and families, as well as lots of things for your science-buffs, farmers, and everyone who is interested in how farm to table works in Chatham-Kent," she says.

Rosser-Davies adds that there's going to be entire area devoted to farm activities for children called the Farm Kids Discovery Zone.

"It will feature a sensory play area that's all about where our food comes from, how we buy food, and how food gets to us from the farmer's field. Kids will be able to explore the different parts of a plant, as well as do some hands-on crafts and activities," says Rosser Davies.

According to Rosser-Davies, the museum is open everyday from 1pm till 5pm. She says admission is by donation but everyone is welcome to the exhibit, regardless of what they can give. More information about the exhibit can be found online.

The Chatham-Kent Museum is located at 75 William St. N in Chatham.
