Union Gas Rates Dropping October 1

Natural gas rates are set to drop along with the temperatures this fall.

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) has approved rate decreases for Enbridge, Natural Resource Gas, and Union Gas that will come into effect on October 1.

It's the first time Union Gas customers are in line for a rate decrease since the price started consistently climbing in July 2016.

When the new rate comes into effect, the average residential Union Gas customer in the South region will see their bill drop by about $51 per year. Customers in the North East region will save even more money with their annual bill expected to fall by about $66 per year. Customers in the North West region should see savings of about $21 per year.

The OEB's decision says "the main driver for the decreased rates in all zones is a decrease in the forecasted gas supply commodity prices over the next 12 months."

The next rate change will take place on January 1, 2018.
