United Way Puts Call Out For Volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a few events put on in the community by the United Way of Chatham-Kent.

The United Way has two popular events coming up where help is needed: the Red Feather event and the Harvest Run.

The Red Feather event includes several activities for children throughout the week of September 19.

Youth Engagement Coordinator Erica Kitchen says the majority of events are being held after school, around 4pm.

"For the whole week of Red Feather we look to about 40 to 50 volunteers," says Kitchen. "Each day we are in need of a different amount."

Kitchen says more volunteers will be need for two of the larger activities; the first being a football game on September 21, and the second is a dance on September 22. Volunteers for these two events must be over 18 years old and must be out of high school for at least a year.

Meanwhile, the United Way is also looking for volunteers to help out with the Harvest Run, which is on September 24.

"We are looking for volunteers for the water stations and we're also looking for route marshals -- so we're looking for people to point the direction, just to let the runners and walkers know exactly where they're going," says Campaign Associate Michelle Robbins.

Robbins says they're looking to have about 20 volunteers for the run/walk. The Harvest Run will start at 6:30am and run until noon at John McGregor Secondary School in Chatham.

Those looking to volunteer for the Red Feather event and/or the Harvest Run can contact Robbins at michelle2@uwock.ca or Kitchen at erica@uwock.ca.
