Maroons Win 6-2 in Home Opener

Noah Bushnell's hat trick made up half the Chatham Maroons' offence in their home opener.

The Maroons put one in the win column for the first time this season as they beat the Komoka Kings 6-2 Sunday night at Chatham Memorial Arena.

Chatham started out the game swinging with three goals in the first period, including Bushnell's first score of the season.

Komoka, formerly the Lambton Shores Predators, added two quick ones in the second period. Bushnell says his teammates kept their focus and pulled away after that.

"We came out with a pretty hot start, a little slow in the second, but then we regrouped," says Bushnell. "I think a big thing about us is we got a good coach here that kind of pulls us together, motivates us real well and wants us to work hard, just all the time."

Bushnell quickly completed his hat trick to complete the scoring in the second with two back-to-back goals and a 5-2 Chatham lead. Bushnell says he is now in a situation where he would be a more effective scorer.

"When I was younger I obviously put up a lot of points and what not," says Bushnell. "When I was playing in a higher league than this it was a lot harder to be the goal scorer...but now that I'm here and I'm older in my last year, I'm looking to have some fun, put up a lot of points and win a few games here."

The Maroons put another goal up in the third and it would remain 6-2 the rest of the contest.

Chatham travels to LaSalle Wednesday night to face the Vipers. Puck drop is 7pm and all the action can be heard live on CFCO Country 92.9/AM 630.
