Maroons Welcome Komoka For Home Opener

The Chatham Maroons will play their first home game of the new Jr. B hockey season Sunday night at Memorial Arena.

The Maroons are hosting the Komoka Kings, previously known as the Predators when they were in Lambton Shores.

Maroons Head Coach Ron Horvat says he has a young team that will be leaning on a small, but solid group of veterans.

"It's not like walking into a team where you know your systems are all in place... you're kind of starting over with a lot of these guys," says Horvat. "With our veterans we do have, they're good guys, good kids on and off the ice, that's such a benefit to new guys on the team."

The Maroons are 0-2 to start the season after losing both of their games at the GOJHL showcase in Brantford.

Horvat says those games were a real test for the young team.

"We worked hard [against Kitchener], we really did, we had some bad breaks go in on us... we came back in the game to tie it late and then a late goal tossed us with an empty-netter," says Horvat. "We played Caledonia in the second game and they're a good team, they're a bunch of men out there... [the Maroons] gave it their all, they stepped up and it was very encouraging what I saw out there."

You can hear Sunday night's game on Country 92.9FM / 630AM CFCO or online by clicking here.

Puck drop is set for 7pm.
