Construction Delayed For Nightly Closure Of Pegley Ct. Tunnel

The municipality is pushing back construction on the Pegley Ct. walking tunnel in Chatham.

Construction for the permanent nightly closure of the tunnel was supposed to be completed by Friday, September 1, but the municipality says the completion date has now been pushed to September 22, due to "procurement delays." The municipality has not provided any further information about the cause of the delay.

According to a press release, the nightly closure is proposed to take place from 7pm to around 7am and will start on a daily basis starting sometime around September 25. The municipality says the nightly closure is intended to increase neighborhood safety and limit suspicious activity.

The tunnel is located underneath the Lacroix St. bridge in Chatham along the north side of the Thames River.
