Chatham Elementary School Gets $1,000 For Breakfast Program

Students at a Chatham elementary school will start the day with full bellies thanks to a donation from a local business.

Angela Vyn at Farm Credit Canada visited Victor Lauriston Public School with her colleagues Wednesday morning to present a cheque for $1,000 to support the school's breakfast program.

"Farm Credit Canada supports a lot of food initiatives. We believe in the importance of providing our communities with food. We run a Drive Away Hunger program as well in the fall, so this is kind of a piece that fits into that," says Vyn.

Vyn says FFC has been supporting local food banks and hunger programs through their Drive Away Hunger campaign since 2004. Vyn says each office in the company gets a certain amount of money every year to donate to a local school and she says they chose Victor Lauriston Public School to be the recipient this year.

"Some kids don't have access to a lot of food at home and food is important to their learning environment, so we think it's a great initiative to support," says Vyn.

Vyn says FCC is hosting a Drive Away Hunger event at the Chatham Maroons hockey game on October 1. She says all canned-good donations and proceeds will go to The Salvation Army Chatham-Kent and the Tilbury food bank.
