Hopping In The Trenches To Fight Cancer

Local residents have a chance to get down and dirty for a good cause this fall.

"Mudmoiselle" is set to take place in Chatham-Kent September 16. It's a 5 km mud run where participants will tackle obstacle courses and raise money for the Canadian Cancer Society.

However, the end date for early bird registration is quickly approaching on August 31.

Senior Manager Cindy Vinall says it's an event where anyone of all fitness levels, 14-year-old and up can participate.

"The great thing about an event like this is the camaraderie," says Vinall. "Whether you're doing it as an individual or with a team, there's volunteers to help you and if you're really concerned... if you raise $150, for every $150 you'll get an opt-out pass."

Fundraising Assistant Darcy Derbecker says the event will be full of fun obstacles that people will have to work together to overcome.

"We have well over 30 obstacles at this point and we're still growing a little bit which is very exciting for all of us," says Derbecker. "You're going to get yourself in mud trenches, you're going to be in a pond, you're going to be climbing walls, the list goes on."

The fundraising event is being held at C.M. Wilson Conservation Area.

The online registration close date is on September 15. You can register by calling (519) 352-3960 or visit the website mudmoiselle.ca/chatham-kent.
