Flooding Possible On Lake Erie Shoreline In CK

The Lower Thames Valley Conservation Authority is warning the public about possible flooding near Lake Erie on Tuesday.

Weather forecasts are calling for strong winds on Lake Erie Tuesday afternoon with wind gusts of up to 60 km/h.

Environment Canada has a strong wind warning in effect for western Lake Erie with waves reaching 2 m in height. Waves of that height could damage the shoreline across Chatham-Kent.

The conservation authority says there could also be localized flooding due to waves crashing against the shoreline and spraying water up onto land.

The LTVCA says the wind and waves are similar to, or slightly greater than, those that caused flooding and shoreline damage earlier this year along Erie Shore Dr. in Chatham-Kent.

People should avoid the shoreline because the waves can be strong and the shoreline slippery.

The flood advisory will be in effect until Wednesday.
