'People Are Definitely On Edge'

Tourists and local residents in Barcelona are still reeling one day after a van drove into a crowd, killing at least 14 people and injuring dozens more.

Chatham resident and 94.3 CKSY morning show co-host Sam East arrived in Barcelona Friday morning while on vacation.

She was just there last week too, and says the mood is much darker now than it was during her last visit.

"The city has completely changed within the range of a week," says East. "There are police barricades everywhere, heavily armed police walking the streets -- it's a completely different feel in the city, people are definitely on edge."

East wasn't in the city during the time of the attack, but says even now, the mood is still very tense.

"We hate to admit it, but we're still on edge ourselves," says East. "We had a whole plan of going out to see some more sights that we missed last week and now we're worried about going out there."

Local residents in Barcelona are trying to stay strong despite the fear that's gripping the city -- they even observed a moment of silence Friday morning for the victim's of Thursday's attack.

"They don't want to let fear take them... they want to go about their everyday lives and not let it consume them," says East. "But at the same time, they're looking over their shoulder even more than they would have the day before yesterday [Thursday]."
