West Nile Detected In Ridgetown

More mosquitoes in Chatham-Kent have tested positive for West Nile virus.

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit says two pools of mosquitoes located in Ridgetown have tested positive for the virus.

In July, a pool of mosquitoes in a trap in southeast Chatham also tested positive for West Nile.

Public health officials say the odds of getting the virus from an infected mosquito are low and few people show symptoms. However, there are some preventative steps people can take.

Wearing protective clothing, using bug spray with deet, staying inside between dusk and dawn, and removing any standing water will help keep mosquitoes away.
