Health Officials Issue Boil Advisory

Residents in Chatham-Kent who use the municipal water supply, serviced by the "South Drinking Water System," are being told to boil the water.

Dr. David Colby, medical officer of health, is advising people to boil any water for drinking, cooking, or domestic use.

A media release sent out Friday morning states that the advisory has been spurred by a lack of pressure in the drinking water system.

A map provided by the municipality highlights the areas affected by the advisory; it includes Blenheim, Charing Cross, and Merlin. Health officials say it affects about about 12,000 customers.

The advisory will remain in effect until two consecutive samples show good results, but those samples must be taken in 24-hour intervals.

Updates will be pre-recorded for residents to listen to by calling (519) 436-3249.
