Wallaceburg Road Construction Extended

Construction work on McNaughton Ave. in Wallaceburg is being extended by about a month.

But it's not expected to cause any major delays for WAMBO (Wallaceburg Antique Motor Boat Outing), which is coming up on August 11-13.

A release from the municipality of Chatham-Kent says the reconstruction work on McNaughton Ave. and Murray St. was supposed to be completed by Friday, July 21, 2017. However, construction crews ran into some problems when they discovered abandoned sewer lines and areas of insufficient road base while they were tearing up the old roadway.

The completion date for the project is now set for August 25, 2017, which will reportedly allow the contractor to complete the work in an "effective and efficient way" while also ensuring "quality and public safety are priority."

Because WAMBO is taking place during the extended construction period, the municipality says the contractor is making sure that all of the lanes of traffic will be open during the festival with sidewalks fully in place and temporary lines painted on the road.

All of the construction barricades and fencing will also be temporarily removed to allow pedestrians and motorists to travel freely through the area.

After WAMBO wraps up, crews will complete the paving, line painting, and any other restoration work that needs to be done.
