Locally Grown Food Gets Put On The Map

Chatham-Kent residents can now get the insiders guide on where to buy locally grown food.

The Kent Federation of Agriculture's new "Buy Local! Buy Fresh! Chatham-Kent maps" are now available around the community for free.

Mary Anne Udvari, director of the KFA, says they first started making the maps in 2007.  Now after ten years, the map is a fifth edition and has grown to include more producers.

"This year we have 44 different growers and producers on our maps," she says.  "You can always check out on our maps for what's in season. If there's specific vegetables or things you want to pick-up within the municipality, you can always check and see what's ready right now and where you can get it."

However, the maps offers more than just fruits and vegetables. Udvari says it highlights where people can also buy fresh farm eggs, meat, and fish.

"You can actually get to know where your food is being grown and you can see how it's being grown," she says. "Many [farmers] will certainly invite you to tour some of their fields if that's possible."

The free maps can be found at public libraries, municipal service centers, and some local businesses. They can also be found online at the "Buy Local! Buy Fresh!" website.
