Wallaceburg is getting in on the Canada Day celebrations with a full day of activities on July 1 including a burger eating contest.
Kevin Roocroft with the Wallaceburg Fireworks Committee says things kick off at 3pm in Kinsmen Park and there will be a lot of family fun.
"After the opening ceremonies, we'll have a Large Marge eating contest from the Big Chief Drive-in Restaurant, and kids activities from 4pm-8pm," says Roocroft, adding that the kids activities are all free. "From bouncy castles, face painting, glitter tattoos, balloon twisting, all that kind of thing -- and there will be a princess party at 4 o'clock on our main stage."
Roocroft says they won't be running a shuttle service this year, but there should be plenty of room for people to park.
"A lot of people use the AA Wright schoolyard to set up blankets and their chairs to view the fireworks -- all of that will be open," says Roocroft.
The fireworks show will start at 10pm with the national anthem performed on the bagpipes by Eddie Babcock.
Organizers say there will also be a vendor area, a community BBQ, and food trucks at the site.
A little earlier in the day, the Legion Branch 18 will be holding their annual Forks Kids Fish Derby.
That starts at 8:30am on Saturday at the Legion building -- it's free and there will be prizes and hot dogs available.
