Deadline Looming For Windsor Pride

Windsor Pride is hoping a meeting with Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens Monday morning will equal good news for the organization.

It continues to search for a downtown location as the deadline to vacate the Pelissier St. parking garage draws near.

Council made the decision to revert the spaces back to parking in November 2016, and at that time tenants were told they had six months to vacate the space.  The last time Windsor Pride was before city council, the organization was granted a lease extension to June 30, 2017.

Executive Director Bob Williams says despite looking at over a dozen downtown properties, they have not come up with one that is suitable without considerable renovations and a huge price tag.

"We just do not have the funds to be able to cooperate in the length of time with the landlord in order to get the renovations done that are required by code, and we need more time," says Williams.

If they do not receive the extension, the organization plans to launch a crowdfunding campaign to help come up with the funds for the move.

"If we don't find additional funds to make this move, and if the city is not able to support in any way, we have to announce crowdfunding. It just has to happen, we need it, we need the support," says Williams.

Williams says they will continue to operate their programming while they search for a permanent new location.
