Third Friday Kicks Off In Chatham

Chatham's downtown will be booming a little more than usual for a Friday night.

From now until August, every third Friday of the month will feature live entertainment, food, and activities in the downtown core, from 5pm-8pm.

Clair Culliford is the organizer behind "Third Friday" and owner of The Veranda. He says the events help out local businesses, freelance artists, and also provide summer activities for residents in the community.

"Talented people from Chatham-Kent are coming to put on displays, sell their art work, sell their crafts -- that sort of thing," he says.

Many of the activities and demonstrations going on tonight will take place outside of the Downtown Chatham Centre.

Culliford says although this is the first "Third Friday" event to take place in Chatham, it's similar to one they've had in the past.

"There was a similar event last year, it was called 'Downtown in the City', now it's been re-branded and gussied up a bit," he says. "All I can say is I hope the weather is nice and we have a reasonable turnout and then build on it from there."

The event put on by the Historic Downtown Chatham Business Improvement Area (BIA) is to generate more traffic to Chatham's downtown during the summer months.
