Sign Almost Ready For The Future Tented City

With preparations for the 2018 International Plowing Match underway in Pain Court, organizers will be revealing the sign for the future tented city on Thursday.

"It's going to be a beautiful sign up there... it's to celebrate that we're 18 months away. There's a lot of work to do but it's going to be an amazing event," says Councillor Darrin Canniff.

Canniff says this event wouldn't be possible without the community's help.

"We have an amazing crew of volunteers. We're going to need 1,200 volunteers overall. We've got actively 100 plus volunteers doing various things... but ultimately, how good this event is going to be boils down to our volunteers," says Canniff.

The tented city will make up 150 acres and hold 100 plus RVs.

"We're expecting over 100,000 people to go through the gates over the five days that it's there. Over half those people will be from out of Chatham-Kent. We really want to make sure Chatham-Kent is ready to host because we want people to want to come back [here] to live, work, and vacation," says Canniff.

The unveiling for the sign will be held Thursday at 4pm at 7540 Pain Court Line.

The 2018 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo runs from September 18 to 22, 2018.
