Jr. Golf Tour Celebrates 30 Years

The Jamieson Junior Golf Tour is back for another summer.

The season kicks off on Sunday, June 11th at the Ridgetown Golf Club, and ends on August 14th at Beach Grove in Windsor.

"This is our 30th year running," says Tour Director Dan DeMarco. "We're really proud of that, the tour has kind of grown every year, and we've hit the magic 30 mark now."

The 107 players who qualified will be split into two different age groups.

"For the juniors we have all the golfers that are 13 to 18 years old, and the collegiate is 19 to 22," says DeMarco. "They actually don't have to be playing collegiate golf, although the vast majority of the players who qualify do play collegiate golf."

DeMarco says the tour is helping to developing more than just the players' golf skills.

"I think the whole competitive golf environment teaches them life skills as well. But we've had great success in terms of developing young golfers. I think we have 25 golfers playing some sort of collegiate golf."

The tour has 11 different stops across Chatham-Kent and Windsor-Essex this summer.
