Chatham's inventor of Hawaiian pizza has died at age 83.

Friends and family of Sam Panopoulos say he passed away "suddenly" in a London hospital on Thursday.

Panopoulos first came up with the idea to add canned pineapple to his pizzas with his brothers at Chatham's Satellite Restaurant in 1962.

He will leave behind the recipe as his legacy to the world.

Visitation will be held at Logan Funeral Home in London on Sunday, June 11 from 6-9pm. The funeral will be held Monday at 11am at Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church on Southdale Rd. in London.  Interment will take place at Woodland Cemetery after the service.
