Canada Day Needs Volunteers

Organizers say plans for Canada Day Festivities in Chatham are coming together, but they still need some help.

The group is still looking for volunteers and vendors on Canada Day in Tecumseh Park.

"It takes a lot of people to put this together," says Chatham Canada Day committee member Kevin Neill. "As we're coming down to it we need a lot of people to help us out with making sure that the park stays clean down at Tecumseh Park, and a number of other things that we have going on that we're looking for help for still."

The Canada Day party gets started on June 30th.

"Fireworks on Friday night thanks to our friends at Greenfield, who are celebrating their 20th anniversary here in Chatham, so they've come through," says Neill. "We're going to have music leading up to the fireworks, and then the fireworks will go off a dusk out at St. Clair College."

The celebrations continues on July 1st with the parade starting at 9:30am. It will head to Tecumseh Park for cake and opening remarks from local politicians .

Neill says the community really stepped up to support the event.

"We've got a full slate of entertainment planned for the park. Teksavvy helped us out there to support that, so we've got music on stage all day long. We've got a family stage and a kid zone the that Battery Boy has come through to help us out with, so we've had a lot of support."
