Chatham War Veterans Pay Respects To Fallen Comrades

Dozens of war veterans gathered this Sunday in Chatham for the Decoration Day Memorial Service.

The day, which falls on the last Sunday of every May, is for veterans to remember their fallen comrades. This year's ceremony was held at the Maple Leaf Cemetery.

"This is where past soldiers survived, came back broken, [and] past away. Those who served honorably can feel proud up there," says Sergeant Len Maynard. "Once a year we come out and support [the soldiers] by putting Canadian flags on them so that they're not forgotten.

A band of bagpipers accompanied the veterans while the flags were mounted on the graves.

Maynard's message for everyone, even those who haven't served, is "never to forget the price that was paid."
