Preparing For The Summer Tourism Season

With Tourism Week just around the corner, the Municipality of Chatham-Kent is getting ready to hit the ground running.

It all starts with a brochure swap on May 30 at the Chatham Capitol Theatre.

"It's a great way for businesses who cater to tourism in Chatham-Kent, to actually come together and swap their brochures," says Shannon Paiva, supervisor of tourism development with the municipality. "Gather in the back parking lot of the Chatham Capitol Theatre, wander around, collect brochures that you're willing to carry, but also then hand out your brochure so other people can carry them."

It's another way to let people know about all the things to do in Chatham-Kent.

"If you don't know about what's happening in your own backyard, then how can you tell those tourists or those others who are coming in," says Paiva. "I hate it when I go to a place and you say 'So what is there to do? Oh ya... I don't know.' There's so much to do."

Paiva says it's also a great way for business owners to save some money.

"You've got all of these brochures, and people print thousands of them, and the cost to mail them is just astronomical," she says. "I mean, when you look at where you're wanting them to go, this a great free way to do that."

The swap begins at 5pm, and will be followed by a Tourism Celebration inside the Chatham Capital Theatre.

Both events are free, but the deadline to register is Wednesday. For more details visit, or to register, CLICK HERE.
