Looking To Fill Dinner Plates

Outreach for Hunger is looking to load up dinner plates for several families in the community who need a little extra help.

Brenda LeClair, executive director for the Chatham-Kent branch, says high utility bills and health issues are two major reasons why some residents need help to put food on the table.

She says the food bank is seeing about 35-40 new families register every month.

"Many of the families we're seeing are working families but they're working at minimum wage jobs, part-time hours," says LeClair. "We also have many families that are -- for what ever reasons perhaps health concerns -- haven't been able to work."

In an effort to help those families, the organization is taking part in a campaign called "Every Plate Full," put on by Food Banks Canada.

"We want to make sure people in our own community are aware of the fact that there are many families who don't have a full plate of dinner," she says.

The campaign will kick off with a barbecue at Chatham Outreach for Hunger located on Wellington St. W, on Tuesday from 11am-2pm.

Leclair is encouraging everyone to attend the event and see some of the work the organization does in the community.
