A four-way stop in Wallaceburg gets to stay, for now.
It was to be replaced by a two-way stop and electronic pedestrian crossing at Murray St. and Reaume Ave. Friday, but Councillors Jeff Wesley and Carmen McGregor have been calling for a delay until construction in the area is finished this summer because of traffic and student safety concerns.
The issue will come before council Monday night and McGregor says she's relieved it'll get another look.
"With the school being so close and cars being diverted because of McNaughton Ave., we really just need a little more time with the four-way stop because it's better to have them all stopping as opposed to not stopping in one direction," says McGregor.
The changes should be in place by the new school year if the two councillors get their way.
McGregor hopes her council colleagues help the cause.
"Hopefully the understanding is there and like I said, we're not trying to make any permanent changes to the direction that council gave before," McGregor says.
McGregor says students are at risk crossing Reaume to get to their school buses.
"It picks up the speed. If somebody has a green light at Murray and Baseline, there's absolutely nothing stopping them coming from 40 highway all the way through the Murray St. bridge and there's just too many kids," says McGregor.
