Local MP Shipley Won't Miss CPC Candidate O'Leary

The MP for Lambton-Kent-Middlesex isn't too crushed to hear Kevin O'Leary has dropped out of the race to lead the Conservative Party of Canada.

Bev Shipley says there are still very strong candidates that he believes can lead the party and become prime minister following the federal election in 2019.

Shipley says O'Leary isn't a team player and he's backing Erin O'Toole.

"Kevin O'Leary wasn't my support. I'm a team builder and work with people who are team leaders and builders and I never saw Kevin as that," says Shipley.

The list is now down to 13 candidates.

O'Leary is supporting Maxime Bernier but Shipley says he can't do that because Bernier is against agriculture.

"He's saying that he didn't have the support of Quebec, I don't think he had the support across Canada from any of the results that I'm seeing," says Shipley. "He's supporting Maxime but I can't support Maxime. He's coming in against agriculture."

Shipley doesn't feel O'Leary is a team guy.

"He's pretty much a Kevin O'Leary person and I didn't see him very much as a team builder and working as a team and that's really important in a democracy," Shipley says.
