More Brands Included In Flour Recall

More brands of flour have been added to a national recall by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) over concerns they might be contaminated with E. coli.

Initially, the recall that was issued on March 28 applied only to Robin Hood Flour sold in Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. That was expanded to cover the rest of the country on April 4.

The recall now includes 10 kg bags of Creative Baker All Purpose Flour with a best before date of October 26, 2017 and various Robin Hood-branded flour products of various sizes with specific lots codes and expiry dates. A full list of the recalled products can be found by clicking here.

The updated recall was announced Sunday after an ongoing food safety investigation identified the additional items.

The CFIA advises anyone with recalled flour in their home to either throw the item in the trash or return it to the store where it was purchased.

The national agency warns food contaminated with E. coli O121 may not look or smell spoiled but can still make a person sick. Symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, mild to severe abdominal cramps, and watery to bloody diarrhea. In severe cases of illness, some people may have seizures or strokes, need blood transfusions, and kidney dialysis or live with permanent kidney damage. In severe cases of illness, people may die.

At this point, there have been no new confirmed illnesses associated with this product recall, according to the CFIA.
