Young Local Women Get Career Advice

About 300 female high school students from across Chatham-Kent learned some career lessons at the Junior Achievement World of Choices event.

The mentoring session was held at the Bradley Centre in Chatham Wednesday morning and offered career advice to girls from Grades 10 and 11.

Lauren Kelly from Lambton Kent Composite School in Dresden says she found the day to be very valuable.

"I'm interested in business. I went to a lot of the business stations and I learned a lot about what I would like to specialize in... by talking to everybody," says Kelly.

Several local women representing a variety of industries across Southwestern Ontario were on hand to mentor.

Meaghan Gooch goes to Ursuline College in Chatham and says she got some great professional advice.

"I met a bunch of women in the workplace, which was really inspiring," Gooch says. "The engineering was probably my favourite because that's what I'm interested in."

Amy Nevills also of Lambton Kent Composite School wants to get into physiotherapy, and says the session was a great experience and gave her great tips.

"Guided a little more towards what I wanted to do... go with your gut and just know what you want to do and everything," Nevills says.
