An event this week is looking to help young women in Chatham-Kent decide on a future career.
Barb Smith, president of Junior Achievement Southwestern Ontario, says World of Choices is like speed dating for careers.
"We're finding that kids were picking careers out of books and not really understanding what those careers actually do by the time they get out," says Smith. "At this particular event, these young ladies are rotating in 20 minute sessions to different careers throughout the day."
Hundreds of Grade 10 and 11 students from across Chatham-Kent will be at the John D. Bradley Convention Centre on Wednesday, April 12.
Smith says 25 to 30 career mentors will meet with the students in small groups.
"We've tried to be as diverse as possible and look at the different careers these kids could end up with in Chatham-Kent down the road," she says. "So we've got no-traditional and traditional. We've got everything from Canadian Armed Forces, we've got finance, we've got law, we've got law enforcement."
The event also feature guest speaker Cherly Galpin, a vice president from BMO Nesbitt Burns, and a presentation from CK Workforce Development about interview dos and don'ts.
Any young woman in Grade 10 or 11 who is interested in attending should contact their guidance counselor at their high school.
