Preventing Childhood Obesity

Methods on how to prevent childhood obesity are being brought to the attention of local primary care providers.

Super Kids CK is hosting an event for care providers such as pediatricians, nurse practitioners, and dietitians, to learn about the Preventing Childhood Obesity Tool.

"It's almost like a guideline for primary care providers to use with their clients in order to help create a plan for their clients to improve their nutrition schedule as well as other lifestyles aspects associated with physical activity, healthy hydration, sleep, and various other lifestyle behaviors," says Annie Lukacsovics, coordinator for Super Kids CK.

Dr. Daniel Flanders and Dr. Mario Elia will be the guest speakers at the event. In addition to talking about the tool, they'll talk about the impacts associated with childhood obesity.

Lukacsovics adds the purpose behind the event falls in line with the Healthy Kids Community Challenge, which is a provincial initiative.

She says there are still some open spots left for those who wish to attend the event, but they'll have to register by April 6.

The event will be held on April 7 at Aristo's in Chatham. You can register by sending an email to: superkidsck@chatham-kent.ca.
