Chatham-Kent Food Skills Network Promotes Healthier Cooking

If you're looking for information on food or want to learn to cook, the Chatham-Kent Food Skills Network can help.

The network also helps train people to teach others to cook and provides recipes, videos and handouts.

Lyndsay Davidson of the Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit says the goal is to get Chatham-Kent healthier by cooking and eating healthier.

"Any chance we get to give people more information, more resources and more tools to be able to cook healthier, improve what they're doing and give them new skills then it's a great thing that we have," says Davidson.

The CK Food Skills Network will provide programs, workshops, and events within the community.

Rick Bradley is a volunteer and says he's looking forward to give people the opportunity to advance their cooking and food skills.

"Our primary focus is on teaching the teacher," he says. "There are going to be resources for individuals and we have a few recipes up there now and we'll have a few more."

Davidson says the food policy council will be spreading the word at different libraries over the next couple of months with workshops throughout the year.

"Right now we're planning for twice a year to train individuals to be able to teach others how to cook and throughout the year the food policy council will have various workshops coming up," Davidson says.
