Baby Meets Paramedics Who Delivered Him On The 401

Two Chatham-Kent paramedics had a nice reunion this week.

They helped deliver a baby in an ambulance on Hwy. 401 on March 17 and had a nice visit from the mother and son on Thursday.

Chatham-Kent EMS General Manager Donald MacLellan says the reunion was a heartwarming moment.

"Delivered a baby on the 401, a very rare and uncommon occurrence nowadays in our world, but everything went quite well and everyone was happy to see each other again and have that little humble reunion," says MacLellan.

Elgin-St. Thomas paramedics also responded to the call and helped deliver the baby.

MacLellan says mother Lindsay and two week old Hunter, who live in Brantford, drove all the way to Chatham for the visit.

"That itself speaks volumes how happy and proud she was and our staff was just as ecstatic to meet the baby again and to see how mom and everyone is doing," he says. "A very humbling moment."

MacLellan says paramedics see a lot of ugly stuff but these tender moments make up for it.

"A lot of our days are comprised of a multitude of things and a lot of them are not very nice stories or settings but when you have a situation like this where you're seeing a life come into the world, it's pretty exciting," MacLellan says.
