Scribendi Changes Hands, But Not Locations

A Chatham-based editing and proofreading company is under new ownership.

Scribendi Inc. has been purchased by MAGNUM Capital Partners, a private investment firm based out of Montreal.

Patricia Riopel and her husband Enrico Magnani are taking over as the new leadership team and say the plan is to keep Scribendi in Chatham.

"We're very happy with the business model of Scribendi," says Riopel. "We want to continue making sure it is known around the world and in its key markets as a leader in proofreading and editing services."

Not only are Riopel and Magnani moving in as the new leaders of the business, they're also moving in as new residents in Chatham-Kent, relocating from Montreal.

"We're already here in Chatham, and really trying to get integrated as fast as possible," says Riopel. "Moving is always a bigger task than you expect it to be, but we're really looking forward to joining the community and getting to know Chatham-Kent a bit better."

Outgoing president Chandra Clarke, who founded the business in 1997 along with her husband and company Vice President Terry Johnson, is glad to see the new ownership is committed to keeping the business in Chatham.

"We are absolutely delighted to be able to bring Patricia and Enrico to Chatham-Kent and to keep Scribendi in CK," says Clarke, adding she is now hoping to turn her attention to other projects locally. "Terry and I plan to stay here, we really love living in Chatham-Kent -- we've got no plans to move anytime soon."

Since Scribendi was founded 20 years ago, it has grown into a network of more than 300 editors.
