Water Wells First Ramps Up Pressure On Wind Developers

Water Wells First has begun monitoring wells in Dover Centre.

Group Spokesperson Kevin Jakubec says the new monitoring stations will take readings of water turbidity and wind speed and will help them track the patterns of a nearby wind farm in hopes of stopping projects in North Kent and Otter Creek.

Jakubec wants wind farms in North Kent and Otter Creek stopped until the monitoring and investigation is complete in Dover.

He says Dover residents drink water at their own risk.

"It's a way now of starting to look for patterns and walk back this problem from the crown acquifer back to vibration sources," says Jakubec.

Jakubec says the cost of, what he calls, turbid well water caused by wind tower vibrations is starting to pile up.

He says total cost of the monitoring equipment is around $15,000.

That's on top of testing being done by well owners at a cost of $2,000 each test.

Jakubec says all the money comes from public donations.

He hopes nearby wind farm developers will also conduct monitoring.

"Have we stirred up this acquifer so much with vibration that we can't fix it and we have stirred it up for generations," Jakubec says and adds "that's why we have taken the position do not construct North Kent-1 and do not construct Otter Creek until we have fully investigated Dover first".

He thinks more than 20 wells are affected in Dover.
