Almost Warmest February In CK

While February was a warm one, it was not the warmest month on record in Chatham-Kent.

Environment Canada meteorologist Geoff Coulson says Chatham-Kent "tied the record for the warmest February ever with an average temperature of 1.4 C, which was set in 1998."

He credits warm air from the south for warming up the second half of February.

Coulson says Chatham-Kent "set three records in February for high temperatures on February 18th, 23rd and 24th."

"February 24 we got up to an amazing 19 C for the daytime high and that came within a very small margin of being the warmest February temperature ever for any day in February. That current record remains 19.4 C back on February 26 of 2000," he says.

Coulson says winter is not done yet, because more seasonal temperatures are expected throughout March.

He says other communities in the region did set new records.

"Windsor Airport set a record for the warmest February, as did Sarnia, and I believe London as well," says Coulson.
