Student Suspensions Still On The Horizon

The Chatham-Kent Public Health Unit has mailed 900 suspension orders to parents of students at Chatham-Kent schools.

The suspensions will impact students who still have incomplete immunization records, and will be effective as of April 4.

Public Health Nurse Dan Drouillard says the number is down from almost 2,000 notices that were mailed out in mid-January, adding he "appreciates the parents who have taken the time to call and get that information to us."

Clinics for students without doctors will be held by appointment only March 16 in Ridgetown, March 21 in Tilbury, March 23 in Wallaceburg and March 27 in Chatham.

To report shots, book an appointment or for more information, call 519-355-1071 ext. 5900.

Shots can also be reported online at chatham-kent.ca/vaccinations or faxed to 519-355-0848.

Exemptions are also available upon request.

Drouillard is asking parents to "check their children’s immunization records to see if they have had the required shots" before booking any appointments.

Drouillard is encouraging those with a doctor to book an appointment if there is no record of the shot.
