$184K To Repair Kent Bridge Crossing

An accidental diesel spill on the Kent Bridge in the fall has racked up thousands of dollars in repair costs.

A report went to Chatham-Kent council Monday night, pegging the cost of emergency repairs done to the bridge on Kent Bridge Rd. over the Thames River at $184,947.

In mid-September 2016, a transport truck spilled hundreds of litres of diesel fuel on the bridge's northbound lane, and part of Longwoods Rd., due to a drive shaft failure.

Work was completed within four weeks and the bridge reopened in October, ahead of the Thanksgiving weekend.

As specified in the report, legislative services are "pursuing recovery of all costs associated with the incident."
